NetLink NBN Trust was established in 2017 primarily for the purpose of owning all of the units of NetLink Trust. Its nationwide network is the foundation of the Next Generation Nationwide Broadband Network ("Next Gen NBN"), over which ultra-high-speed internet access is delivered to residential homes and non-residential premises throughout mainland Singapore and its connected islands. The Trust Group designs, builds, owns and operates the passive fibre network infrastructure (comprising ducts, manholes, fibre cables and Central Offices) of the Next Gen NBN.
As the sole appointed "Network Company" for Singapore's Next Gen NBN, the Trust Group's network consists of approximately 76,000 km of fibre cable, 16,200 km of ducts, 62,000 manholes and 10 central offices, as of 31 March 2017.
The Trust Group is the only fibre network with nationwide residential coverage in Singapore. As of 31 March 2017, the Trust Group supports approximately 1.1 million residential end-user connections and approximately 38,500 non-residential end-user connections. The Trust Group also deploys fibre to 357 non-building address point ("NBAP") connections across Singapore. NBAPs are locations without a physical address or assigned postal code, such as roadside points, bus stops, traffic lights and multi-storey car parks. NBAP applications include infrastructure for telecommunications operators (such as wireless network base stations), cameras, sensors, signage and outdoor kiosks.
The Trust Group intends to leverage its nationwide network coverage to support the growing number of connections to residential homes and non-residential premises. This will also be driven by the digitalisation of the Singapore economy, with more consumers and enterprises adopting digital and smart solutions for work and play.
In the NBAP segment, the Trust Group plans to become a lead partner in the development of new fibre-based initiatives, including the Singapore government's Smart Nation programme.
